NNEPRA welcomed a new member to its board today as strong performance numbers from December and January were presented. David Bernhardt, the new MDOT Commissioner, joined the deliberations occupying the seat of the previous commissioner.

The Downeaster operating statistics were characterized as "robust" by Executive Director Patricia Quinn.

  • Dec '10 ridership (40,906) increased 16% over Dec '09 (35,201)
  • Dec, '10 revenue ($552,478) increased 14.5% over Dec '09 ($482,332)
  • Jan '11 ridership (34,822) increased 10% over Jan '10 (31,630)
  • Jan '11 revenue ($476,480) increased 7.7% over Jan '10 ($442,153)
  • On Time Performance was 71.61% - lower than expected due to winter storms - during two of the storms the Downeaster was the only Amtrak service operating north of Washington, DC!
  • Dec '10 customer satisfaction = 94%, Amtrak overall = 82%
  • Portland-Boston remains the #1 city pair equaling 28% of ridership in Dec
  • Exeter-Boston is #2 with 16% of ridership in Dec
  • Dover-Boston is #3 with 10% of ridership in Dec
  • Saco-Boston is #4 with 7% of ridership in Dec
  • Wells-Boston and Durham-Boston are #5 & #6 with 6% each
  • Haverhill-Boston is #7 with 5% of ridership in Dec
