The Maine DEP Commissioner has 'spiked' another delaying tactic by the Brunswick West Neighborhood Coalition. The opposition group had requested a stay of the approved storm water permit, pending their appeal to the Board of the DEP. Both NNEPRA and TrainRiders/NE argued against putting the permit on hold.
Commissioner Aho denied the request noting that many of BWNC's arguments against the execution of the permit had been previously considered and rejected when the department gave NNEPRA the go-ahead to construct the Layover Facility.
What is the Board of Environmental Protection? It is a seven-member citizen board created by the Legislature. It has the power to affirm or reverse the DEP's decisions. The full letter from the Commissioner to the BWNC can be viewed here.
